Work Related Stress in the Hospitality Industry

Abstract


Employees are one of the major contributors in the hospitality sector. Therefore, the concerns of the workers are the concerns for the industry itself. In the recent years, there has been a significant rise in the stress of employees in the hospitality sector. Stress affects the performance of employees hence affecting the growth of the hospitality industry.  The efforts towards tackling stress in employees are beneficial for both, the employees as well as the company. A stress free worker will lead a better quality of life which will increase his/her performance by many a folds. The reasons behind the stress could be interpersonal for instance workloads, machine not working etc. It has been often observed that in order to get larger turnovers, the employees are burdened with more and more work which leads to stress. This stress than affects the performance of the employee and ironically, a negative growth is seen in the company. In order to enhance the performance of the employees, it is necessary to promote a positive work environment. Other factors like disease, family issues etc leads to stress in the employees working in the hospitality sector. Employees who are working in hospitality industry are facing various types stress due to the nature of the hotel industry, where employees directly interact with their customers and play a vital role within the production and consumption of a service.
