Financial Performance Of District Central Co-Operative Banks (DCCBS) Of Haryana

Abstract


The word ‘Co-operation’ has been derived from the Latin word ‘Co-operari. ‘Co’ means with and ‘operari’ means to work. Thus, co-operation means to work with or working together. In other words, co-operation refers to the voluntary associations, which are formed on the basis of equality and for some common purposes. The basic principle of co-operation is “Each for all and all for each”. Originally, co-operation was considered as a powerful instrument for the economically and socially backward workers, farmers and artisans for strengthening themselves and protecting themselves against the exploitation by the stronger against might is right dogma that governed the feudal frame of society since time immemorial even in modern times though its scope widened to an appreciable extent beyond the confines of backward classes; it, by and large, assumed new dimensions of social divide in the capitalist and industrial societies as well in terms of have′s and have not stand a class struggle between them, a kind of perennial war that still dominates most societies in the developing and under-developed nations. The performance of an institution or a set of institution can be visualised against various variables and parameters relevant to the field of operation of the said institution. Since the field of cooperation of the banks is the management of finance and financial matters related to the country’s economy, the DCCBs role in addressing the status of economy at the grassroots level is very important. The financial performance , as assessed in the study, by and large, covered the physical, financial concerns and indicators like owned funds; borrowing; investment; deposit; credit or outstanding loans; and profit and loss per branch individually as well as comparative along branches as visualised in Table 1.1 to 1.6 that follows. At present there are nineteen DCCBs in Haryana which are listed in all these Tables. The following variables have been taken to analysis the performance of 19 DCCBs:
